I say this to myself every day. Nonstop. Believe me, when I say, it’s a powerful saying. I learned it from one of my best friends, his name is Gerald.
Gerald runs a Twitch account called Haphazard Legend. His love of games is unmeasurable. He does this because he gets to entertain and play his favorite games. His twitter is @HaphazardLegend and you can find his account by clicking here. He also has his own merchandise for Haphazard Legend it can be found by clicking here.
Gotta give credit where it’s due.
Figure. It. Out! Is what he said. I call upon this power whenever I feel scared about making a big decision. That could be buying a house. Or pay off that huge debt. Or folding the pile of laundry that haunts you every time you walk by it.
Big example. My biggest dream in life is to be able to be financially free, by creating art. Art in the form of books. One day I will be a #1 bestselling author and that will be enough to pay the bills for years. Which will give me enough time to write another bestseller. I want to make such a big deal about my work, that it will one day be turned into a movie.
How would I go about doing that?
“A question opens the mind. A statement closes the mind.” - Robert T. Kiyosaki
I published my fifth book titled Pain & Panic By Joey Beauchamp & Jorge Harrington, this was Joey’s first book. Becoming a published author is one of the greatest feelings in the world. However, it still isn’t enough to become a bestselling author.
A movie would be able to help give more focus on the art that we produced. Who would I talk to about making a movie? Figure. It. Out!
The most valuable thing in life is time. I can get money from anywhere. Once you figure it out, it’s so easy to replace the money. Knowledge is linked to money and time, but you can get information from anywhere. You’ll never get your time back. Ever. Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. So spend your time wisely.
How come I bring time up? If you live your life like it’s your last, it will drive you to do things that will benefit your life to the fullest. Time with my kids is valuable. Time investing in myself is valuable. Time spent on reaching my goals is valuable.
I felt like I had to figure it out before it was too late. I called up my friend Patrick, who started from the bottom of the movie industry - not knowing anyone - and was able to star in three projects.
Instantly, he introduced me to people within the film community. Screenplay writers, directors, and talent with huge potential. I’ve never been so flabbergasted in my entire life. Then there was the audition for JACK THE RIPPER BITES BACK. You can watch my performance by clicking here. (link coming soon)
I’ve never acted before. I never had the chance to perform in a school play. Thinking about it now, it makes me feel bad, knowing that I could have stepped up and done something different.
Here was my chance.
Figure. It. Out! Is what I chanted
The worse thing they were going to do was tell me no. Was I afraid? You bet! Only this was the best way I was going to get out of my comfort zone and alpha up. I read for all the male characters and read a transcript from Jack The Ripper himself.
“That was awesome,” is what the director said. “We’ll let you know tomorrow.”
The next day I got an email, letting me know that I landed the part. Which part? An extra cop, who had three lines and loves to eat tacos. Patrick got the part of Jack The Ripper. He told me since I’m new to this whole operation, that any experience is good experience. I agreed.
I agreed all the way up until I got an email from the director, letting me know that he wanted to talk to me about something important the next day at 10 AM. He assured me that it was not disappointing news.
What could he possibly say?
He called me on the dot and I’m happy to announce that I was given the lead role in JACK THE RIPPER BITES BACK. My first movie. What a way to get out of your comfort zone, am I right?
Is this project going to send me straight to Hollywood? The answer is “no”. Will it point me in the right direction and make my chances of going to Hollywood better? The answer is “yes”.
All you have to do is Figure. It. Out!
